The Vision For First Samuel Church (W)Holistic Ministries & It's Holistic Ministries A Church Manifesting Magnifying & Glorifying God By Serving Mankind

THE VISION

for First Samuel Church (W)Holistic Ministries & it's Holistic Ministries is to make a positive impact upon the city of Indianapolis by creating a citywide family center in which all are welcome- a campus that reaches out to the total man with the focus on God the Father, Jesus, the Son and the Holy Spirit as it's Author & Finisher. This will be a place where all individuals and families can grow and flourish in faith and discover God's plan for their lives. This vision is founded upon the following biblical truths:

Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Nehemiah 2:17 Then said I unto them, Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.

Acts 2:17 --And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your Sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

THE PURPOSE OF VISION:
To convert to the ministry of Christ (Acts 26:19, Acts 26:1-18).
To encourage believers (Acts 18:9-11; 2 Corinthians 12:1-7).
To guide and direct believers (Acts 9:10-16; Acts 10:17; Acts 16:8-11).
To reveal spiritual things to believers (Revelation 1:10).
To reveal the truth of Christ (Luke 24:23).
To show men that they are living in the last days (Acts 2:17-21).

Please observe Nehemiah and how God lead him in the vision given to him. Nehemiah arrived quietly in Jerusalem and spent several days carefully observing and assessing the damage to the walls. Following this time of thoughtful consideration, he confidently presented his plan. Nehemiah demonstrated an excellent approach to problem solving. He got firsthand information and carefully considered the situation. Then he presented a realistic strategy. Before jumping into a project, follow Nehemiah's example and plan ahead. Then you will be able to present your plan with confidence. The walls were so broken down that Nehemiah's mount couldn't get through, so Nehemiah had to inspect that section on foot. Nehemiah kept his mission a secret and surveyed the walls by moonlight to avoid unhealthy gossip about his arrival and to prevent enemies from being alerted to his plans. Only after planning carefully would he be ready to go public with his mission from God. A premature announcement could have caused rivalry among the Jews as to the best way to begin. Spiritual renewal often begins with one person's vision. Nehemiah had a vision, and he shared it with enthusiasm, inspiring Jerusalem's leaders to rebuild the walls. Trust the Holy Spirit to impress them with similar thoughts. Often God uses one person to express the vision and others to turn it into reality. When you encourage and inspire others, you put teamwork into action to accomplish God's goals.

MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS OUR PASTOR & WIFE AND ALL THOSE WHO LABOR WITH THEM AS GOD'S VISION GOES FORTH!

Ground Breaking Ceremony

HAPPY 51ST ANNIVERSARY!

West street to 9th and Paca Street, to California street, to Belleview Place, to Cold Spring Road!

Instruction of Rev. Smith. In 1972, we began to look for a larger church and found that the Eight Christian Church was available. On May 5, 1974, with much prayer on the Pastor 's 73rd birthday, Rev. William Smith, had a vision of building a small family church. And in 1952, this vision came true. On July 27, 1952, First Samuel Church (W)Holistic Ministries was organized at 623 West 11th Street, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Scruggs. Rev. William Smith with four other members, Samella Smith (his wife), Mr. and Mrs. Tobe Rice and Mrs. Odavene Scruggs (his sister-in-law). After organizing, the first service was held on the First Sunday in September 1952, in the Charity Hall building, located at 15th and West Street. The First Sunday School lesson was in the book of First Samuel. The decision was made at that time to give the church the name of First Samuel.

By 1957, the building at 9th and Paca became too small for the congregation. The decision was made to buy a lot and build a church. The lot at 729 North California Street was purchased and the construction of the new church proceeded, with Rev. Smith helping, along with the other members.

In July 1958, First Samuel marching from 9th and Paca Street to the new Location on California Street. The Lord blessed and the membership increased and many young ministers were under the loves God, Rev. Peter Fenton. Rev Fenton was installed on July 15, 1989 as the pastor of First Samuel Church.

Since that time the spirit has filled the church with wisdom and knowledge. The word has been expounded to God's people. We thank God for our pastor, Rev. Peter Fenton.

Under his leadership, we have grown physically and spiritually, we are praying around the clock for the Lord to continue to pour out his anointing on our pastor and church. We have been blessed to outgrow this building, soon and very soon we will be moving to our new building on Cold Spring Road. First Samuel left California Street by motorcade and marched into the new and present location. The morning message was delivered by Rev. Samuel Turner of Detroit Michigan. Rev. Smith continued to labor in a humble spirit and on August 17, 1977, God called him from labor to rest. The church mourned but as soldiers we picked up and moved on.

We elected Rev. James Smith the pastor of First Samuel. We loving called him Rev. Jimmy. Rev. Jimmy often made the statement "It's not how long a man lives, but how well he lives." His pastorage was short and he was called home on August 21, 1983 after only 6 years of service.

Rev. A.L. Cain of Houston, Texas was called to Pastor in April 1984. Many changes took place and Pastor Cain later organized and began Jordan River Church.

God smiled on First Samuel and touched the members to select one of our own. A devout, humble, kind and loving family man, who We continue to thank God for our Church, Pastor Fenton and his Leadership.

How to Survive Financial Problems
(Philippians 4:11-13 & 19)
Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: everywhere and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strentheneth me. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
